Preparing for my interview :)

Hello Friends, Today I'm going to deviate from my go-to list and wing this post. :)

I have had a really weird experience with this whole application process for JJ's. What ever happened to putting up a help wanted sign and having people fill out applications lol.

First of all, it seems weird to email my resume. I almost sent it as an attachment, but I saw something on a website that said to never do that. Luckily the article told me how to format the resume for email readability.

It also seems weird to me to not have spoken (in person or on the telephone) to anyone from JJ's. I expected that after recieving my resume I would be called. I guess email is easier, it just seems really weird. The manager has been really good about getting back to me within just a few hours, which puts me more at ease knowing that he is on top of things.

You know, I keep saying he but it could be she. I honestly can't tell from the emails. I guess I just expect the GM to be a male (how sexist of me, I know).

So basically I have less than 36 hrs left to learn the entire menu. I have the numbers down (ie #1 is the Pepe). Now I am on the hard part of knowing what ingredients are on what sandwiches. The GM stressed that this would be a very important part of the interview so I really need to do this right. I made myself flash cards for every single thing lol. The ironic thing is I am remembering the bigger sandwiches pretty well. Its the simple ones that are giving me more problems.

Last night at work, my mind drifted for a minute or two and I found myself running through the numbers and names lol.

I gotta work 4-8 today then come home and study, study, and study. Its been over 3 years since I've had to study for anything, and I remember now why I didn't like it :)

Everyone have a great night/day.

Cook? who da cook? Oh! Me da cook :D

Hello friends :) Today's post is from my friend Mary. She asks What is your favorite meal to eat? And if you like to cook, what is your favorite meal to cook? If for some reason, you had to have a last meal, what would it be and why?

Those are such great questions Mary, thank you again for the idea.

Favorite meal? hmm thats tough. I love to eat. I absolutely love Pizza, but cheese ravioli with tomato sauce is just too good to pass up :) I used to eat chef boyardee brand all the time as a kid, but it gives me heartburn now. But of course that was meat Ravioli, cheese is a million times better. Some of the best ravioli I've ever had was at Olive Garden.

I do love to cook, I just don't have the energy to do it enough. I'm not the best cook in the world, but I am better than my mom is. My issue is that unless I have made it a lot, I must have the recipe in front of me. Winging it does not work well for me in the kitchen.

My favorite meal to cook is "Hamburger Pie". Before you all assume it shepard's pie, its not. Shepard's pie has potatoes, Hamburger pie does not. This dish I have been making for years. I've never followed the recipe word for word (mainly cause I hate Onions). Every time I make it I find something new to add to it. Essentially its just Hamburger, Green Beans and Tomato Paste. Just recently I've discovered that ranch dressing adds quite the flavor, and takes some tartness from the tomato paste. The flavor in the dish mostly comes from seasoning the hamburger as it is browning, and again after it has been drained of its grease.

I genuinly don't get to cook enough. I won't cook on work days because I like to conserve my energy, but I try to do the cooking at least once a month.

If I had to eat a last meal, I guess it would be a Domino's pizza with Pineapple, Pepperoni, and extra cheese (And some Cherry Coke to go with it).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I have heard back from JJ's GM. He told me that he has no interviews scheduled for Friday, so that would be the best day to do mine. He told me to pick the time so I am just waiting for him to confirm it. He said there would be a sandwich test during the interview, so I made flash cards to help me learn the sandwiches :) I really, really hope I get this job. I found it a little odd that he said he didn't have any interviews scheduled for Friday. I think that means either they aren't getting a lot of applicants or they are being very picky about who gets an interview. Either way, that leaves me in a good position.

I work tonight 8-close. Shouldn't be too bad though. Everyone have a great night/day.

Biggest Accomplishment?

Hello friends :) Today's topic is: What is your biggest accomplishment so far in your life, and how has it impacted your life?

To me this answer is so easy. My biggest accomplishment is me.

As a kid, I worried about anything and everything. I think a lot of that centered around my dad being drunk a lot and fighting with my mom (verbal not physical). It is a long process, but I am finally getting to a point where I can just let stuff go. To those people that don't hold stuff in, let me tell you, it is very hard to let go. I am not totally ok, but I have come a very long way.

I mentioned my fear of rejection in my fears post. The more I interact with others, the more self-confident I become. Self-confidence has been a big issue with me in the past. But I have found that having people on my side supporting me and my decisions helps a lot with that.

I know that I still have a lot of work to do on me, but I know that I am surrounded by the kinds of people that will help me the most.

I took a big step today. I emailed my first official resume, for a job opening near my home. The place is literally 5 minute walk away. If I could drive, it would be a waste of gas anyway lol. I've been watching them build the building since they started, just waiting for word that they were finally looking for employees. Luckily my mom saw the ad in the classifides. I'm glad that they didn't do open interviews. I think most won't take the time to do a resume. Hopefully I can be part of the crew in place when they open. If I get this job, I won't hesitate to quit Wendy's.

The old me would have done nothing and just stayed with my sucky job. Heck, even that job was offered to me, I didn't actively go out and seek it. Had I not been given that opportunity, I would probably still not have a job, and just be sitting around doing nothing all day.

Watched Silence of the Lambs last night. It was much better than I thought it was going to be. Can't wait to see the sequel :) Today is another day off so even though it is raining, hopefully it turns into a nice day. Everyone have a great night/day.

just one thing??

Hello friends :) Today's topic is: If you could have just one thing in life what would it be and why?

To some people, my choice would be the obvious one, to others it would be the worst one I could pick.

My choice is Money. It honestly pains me to pick money, cause I know that money won't make me happy. But the thing is, so many problems in my life, right now in this moment, could be fixed with money. I'm not a greedy person, and thats why it's so hard for me to pick money.

I would never want to be omg rich, having lots of money changes people. But everytime I make a bigger than normal paycheck and get to put that little extra away in the bank, I feel a little bit happier.

I guess its just that at the very most growing up, we were at the very bottom of middle class. More than once we moved below the poverty level. We had times that were really, really good. Both of my parents were working, and making decent money. But we had quite a few times that were really, really bad. Having no electricity or gas in the middle of winter. You know its bad when you wear your coat all day but never leave the house.

So thats my choice; Money. Love me or hate me for it. Its a tough call to make, but its the one that needs made.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks like I'm getting Silence of the Lambs today. It was supposed to be Season 1 of Cities of the Underworld but I must have missed it by one day, cause it now says "short wait". I am impressed though that the system did have the brains to skip over season 2 as well, seeing as how I wasn't getting season 1.

I get Monday and Tuesday off. Monday is bank and shopping day :) then Tuesday is all mine to just sit back and rrrrreeelllllaaaaaxxxx :D ahhhhh...

everyone have a great night/day.

Stranded on an Island? I got what you need!

Hello Friends,

Before I get to today's topic, I'd like to make note of something. I often reply back when one of you comments below. So if you comment, you may want to check back to see if I have responded.

Now on to today's topic. Today's question is: If you could only have 2 items on an island (they cannot be used to rescue you or help you off of the island) what items would you pick and why?

This is actually pretty easy if you think about it from a survival point of view. Now obviously I can't drink the salt water, and having a fire to cleanse the water would be against the rescue rule. So I would require glasses (i.e. reading glasses not drinking glasses) and a pot/pan (or perhaps a skillet would work better). I am assumeing that the island already has some sort of plant life that can be used in conjuction with the glasses, to create heat (wouldn't need an actual fire just enough heat to cook with). So a pair of glasses and a skillet :)

If there was no plant life on the island then I would say a large rimmed hat and a copy of War and Peace to read (I've never read it but I heard its really long :p)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Work was soo bad last night. *sigh* I have to turn around and do it all over again today. remind me again why I work? oh yeah thats right the small measly money... alright then. I better get to sleep so everyone have a great night/day.

PS I am running out of topics so please keep them coming.

Drive thru manners

Hello Friends,

I know that I talk about work a lot here. But ever since I began this blog, I have been itching to do a blog post about Drive thru manners (both customer and employee). So I have decided to do that today.

Now this list could probably go on for days, but I'll try to shorten it up.

1. Know what kinds of items are on the menu. Just because one location has a product, it doesn't mean they all do.

2. Try not to use general terms when asking for a size. Saying "regular" size is relative. If you are unsure how the sizes are labeled, ask by saying "what sizes do your french fries come in?"

3. Don't waste our time. This may seem a bit crass, but asking me to wait while you finish a phone conversation is down-right rude.

4. Yelling so that we can hear you is probably not necessary. Again I only know my stores system but if you can hear me fine, chances are I can hear you. Blowing my eardrum by yelling into the speaker is really unnecessary. If I can't hear you, I will let you know.

5. Consider just how much you are ordering. Any order over $20 can be considered a large order (under $20 can be large if it is mostly dollar menu items). Expecting us to finish a $20 order in the same time as a $5 is stretching it a bit. I may even suggest any order that is over $40, call ahead and let them know you are coming so that they can be better prepared.

6. A sub-point of #5. Ordering 10 sandwiches (or fries or nuggets) is going to take us a few minutes. Please be patient.

7. I have no patience for rudeness. Even on the worst days I try to put on a happy face, but if you are outright rude to me, don't expect me to be overly joyed to serve you. Keep in mind that in most places a manager will be able to hear anything you say, and if I am being rude, I will be told about it.

8. One of my biggest pet peeves is people not listening when I speak to them. So often I say "I'll be with you in just one moment" only to have them begin to order. I have a manager who, in this situation, will let the customer get all the way done ordering, then ask for their order. My favorite is when I am asking a choice (so chocolate/ vanilla, or small/medium/large) and the response I get is "yes". Yes doesn't answer my question.

9. A side to #8 are people who begin ordering the minute they land on the speaker. Now its fine for places who run more that one person on the drive thru as my store does during the day. But with just one person, chances are we aren't ready for your order right when you get to the speaker.

10. So many times I have had a screaming kid in my ear, with no one getting him/her quiet. Of course I also get the opposite of the parent screaming at the child to shut up, which doesn't help. Try to get an idea of what your children will eat before arriving so that there is no need for a discussion.

11. Adding more items after leaving the speaker. I understand forgetting to order for a person or missing one little item. But doubling the size of your order is a little rediculous. If that many people are being ordered for, it may be the best idea to make a list.

If anyone took offense to any of those, that was not my intent. I simply wanted to make light of some things that I bet some of you do. I suspect some of you may have suggestions directed at employees, I welcome such suggestions and ask that you please comment them below.

Tonight is LNW group meeting and our GM hunt event afterwards. its gonna be a very long day at work so I best get to bed. Everyone have a great night/day.

TV Fall Premier Week

Hello folks :) Considering that this is fall television premier week, I decided that todays question would be the most appropriate one. Todays topic, submitted by Stephen, is: If you could bring back one TV show, what would it be and why?

I watch a lot of tv. And even though I have favorites that I tune in for every year, I do try to watch a few new ones to see what's new. I've seen a lot of good shows get axed too early, and I've seen bad shows stay too long. This decision is very tough.

I'll start by saying that I will not pick a show that has run its course (like Lost). Now I would love to still have lost on the air, but it was given its ending and any attempt at a return would fail miserably.

While thinking on this topic, I am reminded of a few shows that I truely enjoyed watching. The first of those being Moonlight. It was on CBS and it was canceled in its 1st season. The lead guy is now on CBS' Hawaii 5-0. It was a good show, but about a year too early. Soon after its cancellation, the vampire craze really caught on. However, I don't think that it could sustain itself with todays programing (specifically the CW's Vampire Diaries and HBO's True Blood).

The next show I thought of was CBS' The Class. This show was one of their half-hour comedies that I think they do really well on. If I remember correctly, the show was cancelled middle of 1st or 2nd season. I found the show to be halarious, I guess others didn't. However, I find that there are now too many of these half-hour shows popping up on today's television. You've got How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Cougar Town, Community, Parks and Recreation, etc.

There is one last show that I think beats them all. It is/was ABC's Eli Stone. This show lasted more than one season, and from what I remember, was pretty popular. It was funny and dramatic, and just plain awesome. ABC cancelled the show rather quickly with no real explanation. There were even episodes left that didn't air. ABC was reportedly supposed to run those during the summer after cancellation, but they never did. The show had a lot of good life lessons and if I could bring any show back, that would be it.

I'm excited about television tonight; Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy, and Private Practice all premier tonight.

I should get "Riding in Cars with Boys" today via netflix. I haven't seen it in a while, but its a great movie. I'll be in the spiral today at some point working on the Selena quest and cleaning up some unfinished business so you'll probably find me there. Everyone have a great night/day.
