Little Surprises

So today I worked an 8 1/2 hr day, which for my job, is about as long as it gets. Wednesdays are tricky, last week was beyond dead, tonight was extremely busy. I walked into tonight knowing it wasn't going to go smoothly. On the schedule was myself, our standard backroom guy and 2 others (1 kinda new, 1 very new). This could have spelled disaster for me being the one up front with the most closing experience.

For those that think it is easy to close a fast food restaurant down, it's not. It can be if everyone knows exactly what they are doing, but to have 2 fairly new people on one closing shift is not a good idea.

Nonetheless, we trudged ahead through the night. Once it got dark we hit our first major snag, a massive downpour with lightning and thunder. Being the one in the drive thru window, I got completely soaked. The box that runs the microphones also got wet causing snag number 2.

Once the box got wet it shorted out. So I could still talk to customers at the speaker, but I could not hear them. The only other working headset in the store was worn by the manager/ sandwich maker. However, his box could only listen, the customers could not hear him.

Needless to say, we spent about 2 1/2 hrs taking the orders by relay from him to me. Lets just say I never want to have to do that again.

Anyway back to the closing. Turns out my people had been trained well. I didn't have to ask them to do anything. Nor did I have to pick up their slack. Overall, it was a darn good night.

In other news, I was just about to get on W101 and saw that maintenance was happening in one hour from the time I was trying to log on. So I decided to skip w101 for tonight. Instead I went and played a free trial of some game on bigfishgames.com.

I didn't watch any movies tonight, but Friday I plan on watching Back to the Future 2.

Its getting daylight here so I better get some sleep for my nice easy 4 hr day at work :)

P.S. I tried getting a music player on here. I found a free one but can't get it to work right. If anyone out there knows a good player that works, please let me know. Thanks :)
